Fitim is an app for managing partners in the apartment that allows for real-time documentation of expenses by the partners, viewing how much everyone owes to whom 24/7 and choosing to transfer funds.

The Problem

Talking about money is not a comfortable thing to do, especially when it comes

to do it with your roommate, for managing a complex matter as apartment expenses.

There is an inconvenience in asking for money between partners difficulty tracking and verifying payments investing valuable time in calculation and offsetting.

The Solution

Creating a one platform where roomates can document a paid expense, attach payment invoices, and make transfer and request of funds easily.

The Solution

Competitive Research

In the world there are applications for dividing expenses between users, the best known of which is Splitwise.

This is not an application specifically intended for roommates, and allows only to record expenses, without the possibility of adding invoices or transferring funds between group members.

In the field of money transfers, there are several applications operating in the State of Israel, among which the most well-known are Bit and Paybox, which allow transfers to be made in groups as well, but it is not possible to create a time line regarding the transfers, and each group is intended for a specific and one-time purpose.

Users Research

To understand the characteristics of the intended users of the product, I conducted a user survey for 54 respondents who live with roommates and manage the household with them. Here are the key insights:

Without direct access or ability to keep track on the apartment bills

75%

Would be glad to skip the debt calculation and to notice the roommate.

83%

91%

Pay bills separately and offset in retrospect with the other roommates.

Frustrations

״It is tiring and unpleasant to remind my roommate that he hasn’t yet transferred money on payments I’ve paid for the apartment. It creates unpleasant feelings because I’m not a bank.״

Goals

״Most of the day I am either at school or work, so I can barely see my other roommates. I’d like that the bills will be paid on time by knowing how much I owe  and for what.״

Frustrations

״I really don't like talking about money, and especially when I don't see what my roommates paid for. asking for invoices feels like I'm saying I don't trust them

Goals

״Being able to see all the apartment bills information by myself, without the need of asking it from my roommates, can make my life so much easier

The Product

Onboarding

As an initial step, the application allows each user to enter the personal area at the apartment level, where each apartment has its own numerical key - a user can create a new apartment or enter an existing apartment with the key.

Home page

The app's home screen is the "My Apartment" area that displays the user's balance or obligation amount, pending approval of money transfers, history of paid bills, and history of money transfers between tenants.

In the lower menu, users can go to the "My roommates" area, which shows the user his status in relation to his roommates - who owes whom and how much. The user can choose to transfer the money or request to receive the money, and in addition see the financial relationship with each partner.

Quick action button - Add a new bill payment

The upper left button in the two main areas of the application is used as a quick button for one of the most common actions in the application: documenting and adding a new bill that has been paid.

When we came up with the idea to design the application, the assumption was that this would be the basic action in the application, and beyond the fact that it exists in the "actions" menu on the bottom screen, we wanted it to be as accessible as possible to the user.

Transfer money

The second essential part of the application, after documenting the accounts and how much everyone has to pay, is to transfer money to a partner in a few clicks.

Branding

In designing the application interface experience, it was important for us to balance and create a playful feeling for the user. We chose a color palette inspired by the colors of the sun and the sky, and creating icons in a visual language that is undoubtedly childish, but nevertheless very clear.
